CNN Wins Four NAMIC Vision Awards

HBO’s ‘Treme’ Wins Best Drama Award; TV One’s `Rickey Smiley Show’ Garners Best Comedy Honors 7/11/2013 8:47 PM Eastern

Cable news network CNN was the big winner at the 19th annual NAMIC Vision Awards Thursday night.

The cable news network won four Vision Awards during the live ceremony -- the first for the Vision Awards in two years – at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles. The 2011 and 2012 Vision Awards were presented online.

HBO won three Vision Awards, including best drama honors for Treme (pictured), according to the diversity organization. Nickelodeon, TV One, and Mun2 also won multiple Vision Awards, which recognize original, multi-platform television programming that depicts the lives, spirit and contributions of people of color and best reflects the diversity of the global viewing audience, according to NAMIC.  

Oprah Winfrey was the recipient of NAMIC Member’s Favorite Personality, while actor/director/producer Bill Duke won the organization’s 2013 Creative Legacy Award. Fox Deportes executive vice president and general manager Vincent Cordero was also awarded the 2013 Corporate Leadership Diversity Award, according to the organization.
