CNN Producer Kidnapped in Gaza City

9/27/2004 8:49 AM Eastern

Palestinian gunmen abducted Cable News Network producer Riyadh Ali in Gaza City Monday, AP reported.

Witnesses told CNN two cars with gunmen approached a CNN van on a Gaza street and Ali was taken away at gunpoint, according to AP.

"These men were not very communicative,” CNN correspondent Ben Wedeman said on the network. “They just asked, 'Which one of you is Riyadh?,' and that was it. Their appearance was not unusual. They weren't dressed in any way different than your average Gazan of their age, which was somewhere in their early 20s. No indication whatsoever."

Wedeman said CNN was making attempts to secure Ali's release, according to AP. CNN’s Jerusalem bureau, where Ali is based, did not comment.
