California Channel’s Hancock in Grave Condition

5/25/2006 7:58 AM Eastern

John Hancock, president of cable-funded public-affairs network the California Channel, remains in very grave condition in the University of California Davis Medical Center following a head-on collision in Sacramento, Calif., May 20.

Hancock underwent surgery most of Wednesday to repair the internal injuries sustained when his BMW was hit head-on by a driver who crossed the street dividing line. The other driver fled the scene. Hancock's partner, Juan Ramos, was also injured but has been released from the hospital.

The accident fractured both of Hancock's arms and legs and his pelvis. He's been in an induced coma since the day after the accident, according to Dennis Mangers, president of the California Cable & Telecommunications Association.

"Each day he remains with us is a good thing," Mangers added.
