Cable Show 2013: Mediacom Boots Up TiVo Offer

Starts Off With Multiroom Set-Up That Matches TiVo Premiere Q Gateway with TiVo Mini IP Set-Top 6/11/2013 4:55 AM Eastern

Washington -- Mediacom Communications has launched a multiroom, TiVo-powered DVR package that combines linear, over-the-top, and video-on-demand services.

The initial launch comes about nine months after TiVo and the MSO signed the agreement. Mediacom is starting off by deploying the TiVo Premiere Q four-tuner gateway, TiVo Mini IP set-top box, and companion apps that run on iOS and Android devices.  As part of its “broader rollout plan” for 2013, Mediacom also intends to offer the TiVo platform on a Pace XG1 gateway that sports six tuners and an integrated DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

Mediacom and TiVo, which announced the launch in tandem with the show here, did not identify where the MSO is offering the service in the early rollout phase in the announcement. A Mediacom spokesman said the MSO has soft launched TiVo in a couple of Iowa markets, adding that Mediacom will announce more market-specific information in the next week or two. Candidate markets for Mediacom's soft launch in Iowa include Ames, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.

"We are thrilled at the speed and ease with which we were able to prepare for the launch of TiVo in our markets,"  John Pascarelli, Mediacom’s EVP of operations said, in a statement. "Mediacom wanted to move fast to offer a market-leading multi-room DVR and all screens solution. TiVo has really delivered for us. We are bringing a tremendous experience to our customers and maintaining needed flexibility to evolve the platform over time. We anticipate the seamless rollout of the TiVo experience to continue throughout the remainder of 2013."

Mediacom’s primary set-top supplier is Motorola, which is now part of Arris. Last year, Pascarelli said Mediacom would like have Motorola port TiVo to their platform as well.
