Cable Show 2013: FamilyNet Adds Distribution on Bright House

Net Gains Digital-Basic Positioning in Florida, Detroit, Indianapolis 6/10/2013 6:51 AM Eastern

WASHINGTON — Rural Media Group said it has gained more than 1 million homes for FamilyNet via the channel’s launch on the digital basic tier on Bright House Networks in the Tampa, Central Florida, Indianapolis and Detroit service areas.

RMG said the launch increases FamilyNet’s total carriage into more than 21 million homes, “with more launches imminent.”

Bright House, in fact, today is launching several family-oriented channels including BYU (see related story below), FamilyNet and INSP. Others launching are: BlueHighwaysTV, GAC, Jewish Life, NASA TV and The Pentagon Channel. For more about BHN’s family programming, see this link: http://brighthouse.com/corporate/familyprogramming.

Rural Media Group bought FamilyNet in August 2012 and combined it with the program schedule of Rural TV on Jan. 1, 2013. According
to the programmer, since that merger, FamilyNet’s Monday
through Sunday primetime content is proving a strong daypart ratings gainer, with Rentrak reporting figures up 77.3% year to year, 65.0% quarter to quarter and 63.2% month to month. RMG’s flagship network, RFD-TV, claims the title of the nation’s No. 1 channel for the 50-plus demographic, and said it is the leader for time spent viewing versus all other cable channels as measured by Nielsen Market Research.

“The demand for quality, family-oriented programming continues to grow, and we are excited to expand our universe now with Bright House Networks,” Patrick Gottsch, founder of Rural Media Group, said in a release. “The void created by the loss of The Nashville Network still exists throughout this great country, and we are proud to be serving this audience while connecting city folks with their country roots again.”

FamilyNet combines older syndicated shows The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Newhart, WKRP in Cincinnati and Highway
to Heaven with RMG’s vast library of rural lifestyle and traditional music/ entertainment programming,
including The Marty Stuart Show, Gaither Gospel Hour and Crook & Chase.
