Busy Feb. for Starz InBlack

Starz Entertainment Group LLC’s Starz InBlack will celebrate Black History Month with a diverse slate of world premieres, originals, documentaries and music, the network said Tuesday.

The network said it will air Black History Month-themed fare every night at 8 p.m.

Among highlights: Sunday, Feb. 5, Starz InBlack will present the world premiere of soulful blues concert Blues Divas,featuring performances from blues vocalists Deborah Coleman, Mavis Staples, Irma Thomas, Bettye Lavette, Odetta, Ann Peebles, Denise LaSalle and Renee Austin.

In My Country, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Juliette Binoche, will make its world television debut on the network Saturday, Feb. 11.

Friday, Feb. 10, Starz InBlack will air concert filmLightning in a Bottle.Hosted by two-time Grammy Award-winner India.Arie, who also performs in the film, Lightning in a Bottle also features performances by Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Chris Thomas King, Macy Gray, Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, Mavis Staples, Natalie Cole and Chuck D.

And Starz InBlack will air original documentary Unstoppable: A Conversation with Melvin Van Peebles,GordonParksand Ossie DavisTuesday, Feb. 28.

“At Starz InBlack we celebrate the rich history of African Americans every day of the year with our diverse selection of movies, originals and documentaries,” senior vice president of acquisitions, programming and scheduling Stephan Shelanski said in a prepared statement.

“To commemorate Black History Month, we’ve created a month-long celebration, saluting the achievements of African Americans in Hollywood with a special presentation every night at 8 p.m.,” he added.
