John Friend brings animated characters to life, but not on the TV screen. In June of 2005, he was tasked with building a global consumer products business for Cartoon Network properties. Now, as senior vice president, he oversees the multiple business lines that comprise Cartoon Network Enterprises.

The group spearheads consumer product programs for a range of animation franchises, including Ben 10, Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends and Ed, Edd and Eddy.

“My hope is that Cartoon Network Enterprises can bring characters and shows to life in a way that makes the fans happy and the creators proud,” said Friend, who works closely with the network’s ad sales division to maximize promotional licensing opportunities. He is also a member of the Cartoon Network Creative Council.

A Turner Broadcasting System International veteran since June 1999, Friend served most recently as senior vice president of business development and strategy for Latin America.

“I love the cable business because it’s a broad canvas, very diverse in both the opportunities and challenges,” he said.
