BET: Get to the Polls10/28/2004 5:21 AM Eastern
Black Entertainment Television is kicking up its efforts to drive African Americans to the voting booths Nov. 2.
On Election Day eve, the network will start heavy rotation of its “Speak Now” voter-activism public-service announcements, along with on-screen voter-message crawls during popular shows, encore showings of Speak Now documentaries, detailed election coverage and online chats on BET.com (www.bet.com).
BET will also air a live one-hour edition of BET Nightly News Nov. 2 at 11 p.m. (EST) with election results, reactions from the candidates and analysis from top African-American political experts.
“For more than one year, we’ve made voter registration and political activism a corporate priority through our Speak Now campaign,” BET president and chief operating officer Debra Lee said in a prepared statement. “That hard work all comes down to this final push to get African Americans to vote in record numbers.”
