BET Awards Draws 7.7 Million Viewers

USA Network Notches Third Straight Weekly Cable Ratings Win 7/02/2013 9:40 AM Eastern

BET’s annual BET Awards show drew 7.7 million viewers Sunday, finishing as the most watched show on cable for the week, according to Nielsen.

The event, which featured performances by hip-hop artist 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar as well as R&B singers Ciara, Chris Brown (pictured) and Miguel, topped the 7.4 million viewers garnered by last year’s show and match the audience for the 2011 BET Awards, according to Nielsen.

On the social media front, the BET Awards accounted for 51% of all social chatter across all of cable on Sunday, dominating Twitter with nearly ten million tweets, said the network.

Overall for the week, USA Network won its third straight weekly primetime ratings race, averaging 2.6 million viewers during the week of June 24 to June 30 to top second place TNT’s 2.3 million viewers and third place Disney Channel’s 2.2 million watchers, according to Nielsen.

History finished fourth with 2.1 million viewers followed by TBS (1.9 million viewers); BET (1.6 million); A&E (1.6 million); ESPN (1.5 million); Fox News (1.4 million) and FX (1.3 million).

Nickelodeon barely topped Disney on a 24-hour basis, averaging 1.86 million viewers to Disney’s 1.82 million watchers, said Nielsen.
