Time Warner Cable Adds BBC World News

Global News Channel Expands U.S. Reach to 25 Million Homes 12/28/2012 2:30 AM Eastern

Under a distribution deal announced earlier this month, Time Warner Cable has added BBC World News for 10 million households across its footprint, expanding the reach of the 24-hour global news channel to 25 million U.S. homes.

Time Warner Cable has added BBC World News to the digital basic package in most systems, including in New York City and Los Angeles. In New York, the MSO on Thursday added BBC World News in HD on channel 698 and in standard definition on channel 156.

In the U.S., BBC World News also is available through distributors including Comcast, Cablevision Systems and Verizon FiOS.

“I’m delighted to see BBC World News coming to Time Warner Cable -- this is another important foothold for our global news channel in the highly competitive U.S. market,” BBC Global News Ltd. chief operating officer Jim Egan said in a Dec. 14 statement when the distribution deal was announced. “We are really pleased by the growing demand in the U.S. for a global news network which is both non-partisan and non-sensational in approach. BBC World News is about serious news; with on the ground reporting and analysis from different parts of the world and a mandate to inform and provide a balanced view. We know that audiences around the world value the channel’s distinctive world view and we are pleased that more U.S. viewers now have access to it.”

The BBC said it is investing in new programs and facilities, and plans to launch new studios for BBC World News in January 2013 at the company’s new building in central London.

BBC World News and bbc.com/news are owned and operated by BBC Global News Ltd., a member of the BBC’s commercial group of companies.
