Daniel Fischer


President

The Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing is honoring Daniel Fischer for his instrumental help in the organization with its landmark multiphase Broadband Study, including identifying broadband video content to be studied, participating in the qualitative sessions and shaping the innovative fusion segment. But this isn’t the first time he has worked with CTAM. Indeed, Fischer, president of The Solve It Group since 2005, has been an active member and participant of CTAM since its inception.

When he was with A.C. Nielsen in the mid 1980s, Fischer partnered with CTAM to build the first national measure of pay-service churn at a time when those services were developing their subscriber acquisition strategies. At Warner Amex Cable in the early 1980s, Fischer worked for the first interactive TV test market called Qube in Columbus, Ohio, developing its set-top ratings reports.

Fischer has spent more than 25 years in the media industry, holding positions with Discovery Communications, Nielsen Media and Warner Amex Cable. Fischer built Discovery’s ad sales, programming and marketing research functions and rose to executive vice president and member of the corporate executive committee.

Shawn Gannon

Shawn Gannon is being recognized by CTAM this year for his extraordinary leadership in planning, developing and launching the CTAM Midwest chapter, which replaced the Chicago, Indiana and Ohio chapters, and brought together CTAM members in nine states. This 15-year cable veteran is currently vice president of national affiliate marketing with Playboy Entertainment.

A CTAM member since the early 1990s, Gannon has served on many CTAM Chapter Boards including CTAM Chicago, CTAM Michigan and CTAM Ohio. From 2003-2005, Gannon also served as the inaugural president of CTAM Midwest where he and the board of directors merged nine states and three CTAM chapters into one successful and highly active “super” chapter.

Gannon has also served on the executive board of the Midwest Cable Academy (formerly the Great Lakes Show), CT&C, and many state co-op boards around the Midwest.

Before joining Playboy, Gannon was director of marketing at Prime Cable Chicago. He also worked for American Movie Classics, Telemundo and NBC Cable. He holds a bachelor’s in communications from John Carroll University in Cleveland.

Jo Holz


VP, News Research

As co-chairman of CTAM’s 2007 Research Conference, Jo Holz kept attendees riveted to a myriad of speakers, including Kathleen Frankovic of CBS News and filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me). In addition to chairing the event, Holz took home second place in the 2007 Research Case Study Competition.

Holz is vice president of news research for NBC Universal, where she heads audience research and ratings analysis for all NBC News programs, as well as cable channels MSNBC and CNBC.

Prior to rejoining NBC in February — she had previously been director of news research — Holz was vice president for research at on-demand content distributor In Demand.

She also served as vice president of research for Oxygen Media, Sesame Workshop and Roper Starch Worldwide.

Holz is a past president of the New York Chapter of the American Association for Public Opinion Research, and a recipient of the Annenberg School’s Merrill Panitt Citizenship Award. She also is president of the board of directors for SHARE, a non-profit organization that provides support services to women with breast or ovarian cancer.

Laura Masse

Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel

CTAM is honoring Laura Masse for her superlative volunteer efforts during the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Summits. She helped develop the organizing principles and produced outstanding sessions on brand marketing and creative to increase CTAM’s service to consumer marketers.

As executive vice president of marketing for Crown Media Holdings, Masse oversees all facets of brand-building and marketing for the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. She directs the company’s strategic and creative teams responsible for developing the networks’ consumer, affiliate and ad sales marketing efforts.

Masse is also the key liaison with Hallmark Cards in developing synergistic opportunities with its other brand extensions, including Hallmark Magazine, Hallmark Flowers and the nearly 4,000 Hallmark Gold Crown stores.

Before joining Crown Media, Masse worked for American Movie Classics and Discovery Communications in various positions. She and her team have won numerous awards for their work, including a 2006 CTAM Silver Mark Award and a 2004 Brand Builder Award by Promax/BDA. Under Masse’s supervision, Hallmark also won a CTAM Southern California Golden Palm Award for its 2005 “Hollywood Holiday Sweepstakes” and a CTAM Retail Case Study Competition recognizing the channel’s 2003 holiday promotion.

Domenic Vivolo


Senior VP, Marketing and Sales


Astral Television Networks

CTAM is honoring Domenic Vivolo for his strong leadership of CTAM Canada, including the creation of new chapter member benefits such as InTouch, a Canadian-based research version of The Pulse and the opportunity for chapter members to compete to attend CTAM U. based on the chapter’s role as a corporate patron.

As senior vice president of marketing and sales, Vivolo oversees the marketing, sales, creative services, market research, interactive media, integrated marketing solutions and customer relations departments for Canadian-based Astral Television Networks’ assets, including The Movie Network, Family Channel, Mpix and Viewers Choice.

Since joining the company in 2000, Vivolo has been instrumental in the successful repositioning and rebranding of several networks. He has also been a key player in driving the company’s video-on-demand initiatives, including the launch of Canada’s first subscription VOD service, The Movie Network OnDemand in 2004 and Mpix OnDemand in 2006. Vivolo has also been involved in initiating Astral Television Networks’ multiplatform strategy and the launch of The Movie Network’s three high-definition channels.

In addition to his CTAM affiliation, Vivolo is a board member of Promax/BDA, and is on the board of directors for Astral Media The Harold Greenberg Fund (a national funding agency supporting the development and production of feature film and television projects).
