S-A’s McDonald on Medical Leave

Scientific-Atlanta Inc. -- which will report third-quarter earnings Thursday -- said chairman, president and CEO Jim McDonald had elective surgery Tuesday to remove his prostate.

The company said McDonald expects to be out of the office 45-60 days. In a prepared statement, McDonald said he would remain in contact with his staff during his absence and he expects a return before the holidays.

S-A said the company will be managed by the office of the chairman, which includes Wally Haislip, senior vice president, finance and operations; Michael Harney, senior VP and president, subscriber networks; and Dwight Duke, senior VP and president, transmission-network systems.
