No Airtime for Detroit’s Johns

8/10/2004 6:17 AM Eastern

Johns TV is on temporary hiatus.

The access show, which had been running on Comcast Corp.’s Detroit-area system, has not appeared since January, when former Wayne County (Mich.) prosecutor Mike Duggan resigned to become head of the Detroit Medical Center, AP reported.

Maria Miller, a spokeswoman for Kym Worthy, Duggan’s successor, told AP that some version of Johns TV will return in late September, but its format will be more about changing "the culture of violence," and not just airing the names and faces of area men convicted of soliciting prostitutes.

"Comcast is still very much interested in running and producing the program," Derek Knight, program director for Comcast Cable Communications Inc. in Detroit, told AP. "We'll work with [the prosecutors] in whatever direction they want to go in."
