7/14/2004 5:14 AM Eastern

HDNet will pre-empt its primetime lineup to present HDTV coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, including live programming of the main speakers each night, officials said Wednesday.

As part of its package, HDNet will televise former President Bill Clinton, Teresa Heinz Kerry, vice-presidential nominee Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) and presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) in Boston at the Democratic confab July 26-29.

HDNet’s coverage of the Republican National Convention in New York Aug. 30-Sept. 2 will include speeches by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vice President Dick Cheney and President Bush.

The HDTV service’s coverage will start at 10 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and at 8 p.m. Thursday at each convention.

HDNet is also making its gavel-to-gavel national HDTV feed of the conventions available to MSOs and satellite providers. This public service will be available Monday-Thursday from 3 p.m.-11 p.m., providing subscribers throughout the nation an uninterrupted feed from 13 HDTV cameras at the conventions.
