HDNet to Air Turner’s NATPE Speech

2/02/2005 3:27 AM Eastern

HDNet has a surprise for anyone who missed Ted Turner’s recent controversial speech at the National Association for Television Programming Executives’ conference in Las Vegas.

The high-definition network will present the speech and audience question-and-answer session, uninterrupted by commentary, in an HDNet World Report special presentation Sunday at 8 p.m. (EST).

Among highlights from the former Time Warner Inc. vice chairman and Cable News Network founder’s speech:

• On media conglomerates: “They own everything. That's why I went into the restaurant business. Either that, or I'd work for a salary for one of the big jerks."

• On Fox News Channel’s No. 1 news ranking: "Hitler was more popular in the '30s in Germany than the people running against him … Just because you're bigger doesn't mean you're right."

• On the war in Iraq: "We've spent $200 billion destroying Iraq … it's obscene and stupid."

• On Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s merger with Time Warner: "The biggest mistake" he ever made.
