Eagle, GlobeCast Launch IPTV Platform

Eagle Broadband is teaming up with GlobeCast to provide a turnkey Internet-protocol-TV solution that telcos can deploy quickly and cost-effectively.

The “IPTVComplete” package contains more than 200 channels of programming, including HD, video-on-demand and digital-music content for private IP networks deployed by telcos, utilities, municipalities and even universities.

Eagle said the solution can save broadband providers $1 million-$2 million in upfront capital costs. The deal combines Eagle's IP-video-content rights, video services and set-top box with GlobeCast's carrier-class IP network and global-IP satellite-distribution capabilities. GlobeCast is a subsidiary of France Telecom.

In other IPTV news, i3 micro technology ab announced its “Mood 130” IP set-top box, priced at $99. i3 executives said it was a breakthrough in cost and performance.

"We can now offer service providers a low-cost alternative that matches the quality and security requirements of both incumbent operators and demanding residential subscribers," CEO Jan Werner said in a prepared statement.

And ETI Software Solutions Inc. said Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative is using its provisioning system to deliver voice, video and data services to its 30,000 customers in Texas.
