DTV Sales Jump in August

9/28/2004 12:02 PM Eastern

U.S. sales of digital televisions totaled 328,000 units in August, up 10% from the same period last year, the Consumer Electronics Association said Wednesday.

Sales of HDTV comprise the majority of digital-TV sales.

Consumer-electronics companies sold $479 million in digital TVs in August, up 7% from August 2003, the CEA said. That puts the average price of each digital TV sold in August at $1,460.

“Our industry continues to focus on expanding the market for DTV. The strong sales in August reflect that commitment,” CEA CEO Gary Shapiro said in a prepared statement.
