Cox Business, Nortel Show They Care

Care New England Health System has deployed a managed optical Ethernet service from Cox Communications Inc.’s Cox Business Services unit based on a solution from Nortel Networks, the healthcare-provider group said Tuesday.

The service was installed and is managed by Cox Business Services, and it is based on Nortel’s “Optical Metro 3500” with resilient-packet-ring capabilities.

Care New England, which is made up of five leading healthcare providers, is using the service to converge networks across multiple campuses in order to promote consistent services, cost savings, reliability of critical patient information and support for emerging healthcare applications.

“With the industry rapidly moving toward digital content, it became very apparent that we needed a high-bandwidth network capable of delivering real-time, reliable and secure access to critical patient information across the network,” Care New England director of technical services Howard Rubin said in a prepared statement.

“The optical Ethernet solution meets our needs for integration and consistency across the network, allowing us to easily and cost-effectively support new applications that will improve patient care,” he added.
