Charter Rolls Out Video Mail

Charter Communications Inc. said it is rolling out a video-e-mail application from Vibe Solutions Group that it will offer free-of-charge to high-speed-data customers.

The “Charter Video Mail” service requires a Webcam and allows subscribers to record video clips of up to 45 seconds that can be sent along with an e-mail. Recipients of the e-mails can access the videos through a Web link that’s included in the messages.

Comcast Corp. rolled out Vibe’s Video Mail product last summer, and the MSO’s Philadelphia system has a marketing deal with the local NBC station in Philadelphia to promote the ability to use Video Mail to communicate with its anchors.

Charter customers with Internet-access speeds of 3 megabits per second and higher can also access “Greeting Card” and “Story Teller” applications, which allow subscribers to choose from more than 40 video greeting cards that can be customized with a message.

The Story Teller application lets subscribers record photos in a video slideshow that can be shared with friends and family.
