Charter Names Blackley EVP Engineering and IT

Charter Communications said Wednesday that it has hired former Cablevision Systems executive Jim Blackley as its new executive vice president, engineering and information technology, reporting directly to CEO Tom Rutledge.

In his new role, Blackley will have oversight of the advanced engineering and information technology teams. Blackley had been with Cablevision for 16 years, most recently as executive vice president, corporate engineering and technology. Prior to joining Cablevision in 1996, he designed software and systems with evolving development and technology responsibilities with Royal Insurance, Depository Trust Company, Long Island Lighting Company, Con Edison and American International Group.

“Jim’s experience spearheading the rollout of industry-leading, innovative cable and Internet solutions will prove invaluable as Charter maximizes the full potential of our network architecture,” Rutledge said in a statement.

Blackley will join Charter immediately, the company said. Jay Carlson, Senior Vice President, Information Technology; and Jay Rolls, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, will report to Blackley, Charter said.
