Comprehensive Deal Includes Retrans, Cable Nets 1/29/2013 9:46 AM Eastern

Charter Communications said Tuesday that it has renewed its carriage agreement with CBS Corp., including retransmission consent deals for all CBS-owned stations as well as  cable channels Showtime Networks, CBS Sports Network and Smithsonian Channel.

The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, also includes new online and on-demand availability of programming from CBS and Showtime. Plans are underway to make primetime shows from CBS available on-demand to customers across all Charter markets in the coming months. The launch of the authentication service Showtime Anytime, which will provide Charter’s Showtime  customers with unlimited access to content on the premium network via computers, iPad, iPhone and Android devices, also will be coming soon.

"We are pleased to have reached this comprehensive renewal agreement that recognizes the value our stations and our cable channels bring to Charter and to the audiences we share," said CBS executive vice president for planning, policy and government relations Martin ranks in a statement.

Said Charter senior vice president of programming Allan Singer: “With this agreement, Charter customers can count on us to continue to deliver popular shows and movies from CBS Corporation, and we are especially pleased that the expanded agreement includes CBS Primetime VOD and Showtime Anytime throughout our entire footprint. Charter is pleased to start 2013 having successfully concluded this enhanced programming agreement.”
