Beta Reveals Ops’ Shopping Lists

Beta Research Corp. Wednesday released the results of its fall 2004 “Beta Research Cable Operator Study on Channel Carriage.”

Among the highlights:

• The new digital emerging networks cable operators are most interested in carrying by the end of 2005: Do It Yourself and NFL Network (70%); Hallmark Movie Channel (59%); College Sports Television, Discovery Home Channel, Fine Living and The Science Channel (57%); and Biography Channel, Fox Movie Channel and The Outdoor Channel (55%).

• Midsized networks cable operators are most interested in carrying by the end of 2005: Hallmark Channel (69%); ESPN Classic (60%); Oxygen (58%); Speed Channel (55%); Outdoor Life Network (54%); and National Geographic Channel (52%).

• Emerging networks cable operators with 50,000 or more subscribers are most interested in carrying by the end of 2005: NFL Network (40%); CSTV (34%); Anime Network (33%); Fine Living and The Tennis Channel (30%); PBS Kids Channel (27%); Hallmark Movie (26%); NBA TV (24%); Lifetime Real Women (23%); and Fox Movie (21%).

• Midsized networks cable operators with 50,000 or more subscribers are most interested in carrying by the end of 2005: Oxygen (23%); FitTV (14%); SOAPnet (13%); Fuse (11%); and Style, WE: Women's Entertainment, Hallmark and LMN (10%).
