Adelphia, Level 3 Take It Up a Level

Level 3 Communications Inc. said Thursday that it has reached a multiyear deal to provide additional nationwide network services for Adelphia Communications Corp.

Adelphia had already been using wavelength and other services from Level 3 for nearly three years.

Under terms of the new agreement, the MSO will use multiple-wavelength circuits from Level 3 to transport data and voice traffic to and from major cities throughout the United States.

“We look forward to providing Adelphia with a scalable, wavelength-based backbone that gives the cable operator the flexibility, control and cost efficiencies the company requires,” Level 3 senior vice president of transport services Randy Dunbar said in a prepared statement.

“MSOs need these network capabilities to help support the growth of their broadband Internet and HDTV services,” he added.
