U-Verse Adds 233K Video Subs in Q2

AT&T added 233,000 U-Verse video customers in the second quarter, crossing the 5 million-subscriber milestone, as TV and Internet sales made up the lion’s share of total wireline revenue.

AT&T’s U-Verse Internet service reported a net gain of 641,000 customers in the period, ending the quarter with a total of 9.1 million customers. Overall U-Verse customers (TV, IP phone and Internet) reached 9.4 million in the period.

Total U-Verse revenue was up 30% in the quarter, making up about 51% of total wireline revenue of $14.8 billion. U-Verse had accounted for 41% of wireline revenue in 2012.

Consolidated revenue was up 1.6% to $32.1 billion, dominated by the company‘s wireless unit, which accounted for $17.3 billion of the total, up 5.7% from the prior year.

“This was a solid quarter for revenue and customer additions across our key growth platforms,” said AT&T chairman and CEO Randall Stephenson in a statement. “Our 4G LTE network is the fastest and the most reliable in the nation, and deployment is ahead of schedule. That contributed to a step-up in postpaid subscriber gains, and strong mobile data revenue growth of nearly 20 percent. Growth in U-verse and strategic business services also continued to be strong — adding to our momentum.”
