Brown Takes Walk With Outdoor Channel

Industry Vet Looks To Drive Net's Distribution Past 30M Subscriber Mark

-- Multichannel News, 9/11/2007 12:50:00 PM

Outdoor Channel has added industry veteran Randy Brown to its affiliate roster.

The Temecula, Calif.-headquartered network, which counts around 30 million subscribers, named Brown senior vice president, affiliate sales and marketing.

“I am a fervent believer that independent channels promote choice and competition,” said Brown in a statement. “By joining Outdoor Channel I will have a considerable opportunity to contribute to the wonderful American tradition that this network stands for.”

Noted Outdoor COO Tom Hornish in a statement: “Randy has played a pivotal and invaluable role in the success of major sports networks across the television landscape. We expect that his solid industry relationships, leadership style and passion for the outdoors will bring our unequaled quality of original programming and multiplatform network offerings to millions of new television homes.”

Brown, who has 25 years experience in securing carriage contracts for new and existing networks, most recently launched a consulting firm Widespread Content. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of distribution for Tennis Channel, which he joined in 2001 and helped gain distribution deals with 18 of the nation’s top 20 providers, and served as co-founder for the Association of Independent Programming Networks.

His career has also included stints at ESPN, where he was senior vice president, affiliate sales and marketing for the 19-person Central Division.

Brown began his cable TV career in 1984 at Pro Am Sports System in Detroit, where he was responsible for a wide range of sales and marketing initiatives.
