Cable Trivia Buffs Wanted

Cable Center Showdown Set for Oct. 10

By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 8/21/2007 1:40:00 AM

What was the first original program ever shown on HBO? If you can answer that sort of question and belong to the Denver-area chapter of Cable Positive, CTAM or NAMIC, you could be called upon to compete in a trivia contest to win cash for your organization.

The Cable Center Showdown trivia challenge will be held from 11a.m. to 1p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, during “Cable Days” at the Cable Center in Denver.

In true game-show format, teams of four from each local cable organization will battle against each other for a $1,000 cash prize for their respective group, and a trophy.

All questions for the event will be derived from The Cable Center’s Barco Library and will include a mix of cable history and trivia. Each of the teams will also name an honorary coach to help them in their quest to be the tournament champion. The emcee will be Jim Honiotes of Lynch Cable Resources.

Admission to the showdown is $25 for members of Cable Positive, CTAM and NAMIC and $35 for all others. Ticket price includes a box lunch, and admission to The Cable Center’s Key Issues Series: The Future of User Generated Content. The Key Issues Series will feature leaders from throughout the cable industry analyzing and discussing the growing trends related to user generated content and is scheduled for 3-7p.m. that afternoon.

Underwriting for the trivia event comes from October Strategies.

Oh, and the trivia answer: the Pennsylvania Polka Festival, in 1975.
