A&E has ordered a new nonfiction series from executive producer Dick Wolf. The series, which has the working title D.O.A., will cover a team of detectives re-examining controversial murder cases.
Wolf is no stranger to the world of crime drama, as the producer is responsible for the creation of the Law & Order franchise as well as numerous other credits. Chicago P.D., a spin-off of the Wolf-produced Chicago Fire, currently airs on NBC.
D.O.A. will feature a team of three real detectives: Chicago homicide officer Detective Michelle Wood, Miami Detective Joe Schillaci, and retired NYPD detective and supervisor Kevin “Spider” Gannon. The series follows the three detectives as they investigate reconstructed crime scenes, conduct interviews and consult forensic specialists in order to reach new conclusions about old cases.
The premise of D.O.A. is similar to that of TNT’s Cold Justice, the unscripted docu-series for which Wolf also serves as executive producer. Cold Justice recently finished airing its 16-episode second season run.
“A&E has long been an innovator in crime and justice programming. We are looking to expand on our industry leading position by partnering with the master of the genre, Dick Wolf, on such a fascinating and unique new series,” said David McKillop, Executive Vice President and General Manager, A&E Network, in a release.
